Outdoors
Pittsburgh Marathon Virtual Race
Anytime Through May 15
Anywhere

This would’ve been race weekend for the annual Pittsburgh Marathon. Getting thousands of sweating people in the same place is obviously not ideal at the moment; that doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t cross the finish line. Sign up for a virtual race through the marathon website and you’ll have until May 15 to submit your time — and get the swag you’d usually receive, medal included. You can even print out an at-home race bib to really get that race day feeling.

Virtual versions of all the normal races are available, from the full 26.2-mile trek to the toddler trot. Resources on the website will point you to suggested routes, safe running tips and more. Keep in mind social distancing when you run; consider setting out at off-peak hours or away from the most popular trails to avoid crowding, and leave other runners and walkers at least 6 feet of distance as you pass. No matter your running level, getting out and moving is a great idea — nothing helps the quarantine blues like physical activity (and, if only for a little while, a change of scenery).

Theater
Google Doc Musical
Ongoing Through May 17
Pittsburgh CLO Website

Precious few of us will ever write a musical; as far as amateur compositions go, Broadway is significantly trickier than, say, composing a haiku. But the Pittsburgh CLO is inviting experienced creators and spirited amateurs alike to contribute to their “Google Doc Musical.” Anyone can follow the creative process through the CLO website; if you want to try your hand at lyrics and stage directions, apply for access to add to the Google Doc. There are plans to eventually mount the finished product, and I hope those ambitions are realized; the budding musical has been titled “Jagoff!,” and the first tune is about pretending you’re still 29. This has all the hallmarks of a potential yinzer classic.

Magic
Liberty Magic @ Home
7:30 p.m. Friday
Pittsburgh Cultural Trust YouTube Page

The Downtown magic venue on Tuesday announced the lineup for its forthcoming season and is offering a sneak peek at two of the forthcoming performers this Friday night. Liberty Magic @ Home is a weekly, virtual performance and Q&A session, presented via live stream on the Cultural Trust’s YouTube and Facebook pages. This week, the stream will feature Chris Capehart and Jon Tai; Capehart will kick off Liberty Magic’s 2020-21 season beginning Sept. 16, and Tai, a Pittsburgh native, will follow with a residency beginning Nov. 25. The live show kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and will be available for replays on YouTube thereafter; if you’d like to catch up with last week’s show, featuring recent performer Anna DeGuzman and Liberty Magic favorite Eric Jones, it’s available right now.

Music
Pittsburgh Opera @ Home Radio Show
12:30 p.m. Saturday
89.3 FM or wqed.org/fm

Opera has a higher barrier to entry than most art forms. To get the full impression of a great work, you’re going to need to commit to a not-insignificant ticket purchase, a long evening and a business casual or better dress code — just to see if you’re a fan. Fortunately, Pittsburgh Opera is taking stay-at-home as an opportunity to present bite-sized introductions to its work for curious listeners. At 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays, the organization will replay selections from recent work on WQED-FM radio and via wqed.org/fm; tune in to see if you have an inner opera fan you haven’t been nurturing.
