The Internet Reacts to the Closing of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The publication will cease operations in May.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette announced Wednesday that the publication will cease operations on May 3.
This announcement follows the folding of the Pittsburgh City Paper in the first week of 2026.
Here, the internet reacts to the news.
It gets harder and harder to remain optimistic about the future of this industry. Unfathomable that Pittsburgh is losing its newspaper of record.
My thoughts are with of all my colleagues at the P-G, who have always done great work, and their families.https://t.co/0UuAFcHYRd

Losing the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is just unbelievable for our city.

When I woke up every morning as a kid, I grabbed the sports page of the Post-Gazette. Every single morning.
That paper, those stories, are a big reason why I pursued a career in sports media.
The thought of Pittsburgh without the Post-Gazette is unfathomable. Extremely sad.

First Pittsburgh City Paper… now the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
I had my first journalism internship here during college in the multimedia department. Learned from incredible people to help start building the skills I have built upon during my career to reach this level.

Absolutely horrible news. Thinking of all the hard-working and talented people at the Post-Gazette today. https://t.co/CgfNTdSuug

Running out to grab the Post-Gazette every morning and immediately turning to the sports page is still one of the most vivid and defining memories of my childhood. Incredibly sad and a massive loss to the Pittsburgh media landscape.

This sucks. For the town I grew up in, for the people of Pittsburgh and its surrounding areas, and for most of all, the countless amazing people and amazing writers I’ve come to know that work there.
What a sad day this is. https://t.co/XDDh61kvdO

Absolutely stunned by the Post-Gazette news and gutted for all of those, including many mentors and friends, who work there.
Hoping for a solution that keeps quality journalism in Pittsburgh.
