Steelers Unveil Throwback Uniform Inspired by 1930s Team
Honoring the organization’s first team, the bold black-and-gold jersey celebrates both the city and the Steelers’ legacy.
For this season’s throwback jersey, the Pittsburgh Steelers are taking it way back — almost 100 years.
On Monday, the organization revealed players will wear a bold jersey with black striping on a yellow background that honors the uniforms the Steelers wore in 1933, the same year the franchise was founded.
“We’re excited to unveil our new throwback uniforms, which not only pay tribute to the origins of the Steelers franchise, but also to the deep connection we have to our hometown of Pittsburgh,” said Steelers President Art Rooney II in a statement.
The Steelers will wear the jerseys when they play the Green Bay Packers — another storied franchise with a rich history — on Sunday, Oct. 26.
Fans will also notice a reimagined helmet with a gray mask and matte gold finish — a design inspired by Steelers uniforms from the 1930s and 1960s.
Featuring oversized, black-trimmed white block numbers, the jersey has the City of Pittsburgh’s crest on the left shoulder, both as a nod to the team’s heritage and to its deep connection to the area.
The uniform also includes beige pants that emulate the khaki uniforms from 1933, albeit with a modern, athletic fit.
More photos of the throwback jersey, and the history behind its inspiration, can be found on the Steelers website and the team’s social media.
