The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership is encouraging folks to shop small — and potentially win big.

Shopopoly, a weeklong shopping event inspired by the classic board game, will be held in Market Square from March 20 through March 28. Shoppers can receive a free game card from any of the 23 participating businesses and collect signatures from each business they visit. Before the event ends on March 28, participants must turn in their signed card to any one of the participating retailers.

Collecting signatures will enter a participant into a drawing to win one of three prize packages; the more signatures collected, the bigger the potential reward. The first prize package, awarded to a participant who receives a minimum of three signatures, is worth $500. The second, awarded to a participant who receives a minimum of five signatures, is worth $750. The third prize package will be awarded to a participant who receives a minimum of ten signatures; it includes $1,000, plus a one-night stay and brunch for two at the Hilton Garden Inn in Market Square.

Organizers say that this year’s event provides an avenue for shoppers to support local businesses — as well as local branches of national franchises such as Starbucks and Dunkin’ — during the final leg of construction in Market Square.
