Pittsburgh’s Strip District is about to get a little more beautiful.

Real estate developer McCaffery Interests recently announced that a Sephora store is slated to open in the summer at The Terminal, replacing Mayweather Boxing + Fitness, which closed last June.

A national chain carrying high-end cosmetic and personal care products typically not available at drugstores, Sephora already has several stores around the Pittsburgh area, including on Walnut Street in Shadyside, Ross Park Mall and South Hills Village.

The Sephora’s Terminal location will be slotted between fitness chain [solidcore] and City Grows, a locally owned organic garden and gift shop that also has a store in Lawrenceville.

Popular Pittsburgh-based apparel brand Steel City also will open a new store at The Terminal in the spring; this is the fourth location for the brand owned by Brandon and Carly Grbach. The latest Steel City shop will feature a mix of apparel and accessories — including T-shirts, hoodies, jeans, hats, stickers — with a distinct vintage theme, according to McCaffery.

“Steel City marks an exciting addition for The Terminal that further enhances our community,” says Dean Welch, vice president of Pittsburgh operations at McCaffery in a press release. “We strive to be a destination where locals and tourists alike can discover the best of Pittsburgh — and their brand does that through their designs and greater mission.”

Those aren’t the only newcomers to the area; MindFuel, a locally owned wellness studio featuring guided group sauna, cold plunge and breathwork experiences, is set to open on March 21 across the street from The Terminal.

McCaffery expects the new stores to serve a growing residential population in the fast-growing Strip District. According to the 2024 State of the Strip District report from Strip District Neighbors, the neighborhood’s residential population will likely double within the next two to three years after experiencing a 319% increase between 2015 and 2024.
