More than 18 months after announcing an impending name change, rebranding is underway — and highly visible — at the Carnegie (soon to be Kamin) Science Center.

The North Shore institution in January 2024 announced that it would become the Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin Science Center, a renaming in honor of a “transformational” $65 million gift from the philanthropists. A long timeline was given for the rebranding effort; now, the name change is imminent.

The “Carnegie” is gone from the structure’s roof, with a portion of the new name already in place.

A “(Re)Launch Day Celebration” is scheduled for Sept. 13. The public will be invited to the free event to see the changes inside and outside the science center, as well as get a glimpse at what’s coming soon in programming and events. The museum will be closed from Sept. 2-12 to complete the changes and rebranding.

The Science Center will formally announce the change and reveal what’s coming soon — including new exhibitions and experiences — at a media event on Sept. 11.
