Schenley Park Rink Will Reopen This Year for Ice Skating Season
The rink was closed last winter due to construction delays.
The Schenley Park Skating Rink is back in business for the upcoming winter season.
After being closed last year due to construction delays as the Department of Public Works installed a new chiller system, the venerable rink, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in January, will open for the 2024-2025 skating season on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Although skating at the scenic outdoor rink is weather dependent (warm temperatures and lots of sunshine can deteriorate the ice), Citiparks is planning to host a number of special events over the next few months.
Up first is Skate with Santa from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15. The popular Mascot Skate, which includes sharing the ice with some of the area’s favorite mascots — among them Iceburgh, the Pirate Parrot and Steely McBeam — returns on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
There also will be an adults-only Disco Night from 8 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1 and a Valentine’s On Ice event from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14.
Admission to the rink is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and veterans and $3 for youths. Skate rental is $3 per person.
