Guided tours of Treasured Ornament: 10 Centuries of Islamic Art begin this week for the new Frick Pittsburgh exhibition that runs through Oct. 20.

The show, which opened on Aug. 17, was postponed from opening last fall after the Hamas-led militants’ attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

The exhibit displays the ornate objects — such as glasswork, ceramics, metalwork, painting, weaving and more — that anchored everyday life in Muslim civilizations in southwest Asia and Northern Africa, including Iran, Egypt, India, Syria and Turkey. “Treasured Ornament evokes the rich history of the Islamic world, and the shared human experiences that bind us, transcending borders and boundaries,” according to a description on the Frick website.

The show was curated by Christopher Hatten of the Huntington Museum of Art, the largest art museum in West Virginia. It is based on research by Walter B. Denny, distinguished professor of the History of Art and Architecture at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Sue D’Auria, former associate curator at the Huntington Museum of Art.

While the show can be viewed at all times during The Frick’s operating hours (Tuesday-Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) special guided tours (free with exhibition admission) will be available on Thursday and Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. throughout the show to provide more context and explanation of the exquisite objects on display.

Tickets for the show are $15, with discounts for various age groups. Free admission to members and those who are Allegheny County library card holders through RAD Pass at radpass.org.
