Pittsburgh’s Word of the Year Is…
Readers vote on the topic that defined 2025.
Many stories defined Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania in 2025, but only one word stuck out to readers as Pittsburgh’s Word of the Year.
The winning word (we included topics and phrases, too) pulled in 36% of the votes.

The Immaculate Collection is a region-wide clean-up initiative to beautify the ‘Burgh ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. Want to participate? The Immaculate Collection’s website has a list of volunteer opportunities, including “Beautification Saturdays” and “Beautification Sundays.” According to those event listings, projects “can include weeding & seeding, removing rubble, painting” and more.
