Pittsburgh Pools Will Open June 15
Pool maintenance and a limited number of lifeguards prevent all 18 pools from opening in 2024.
As Pittsburghers start to enjoy the warm summer days, 15 City Pools are finally set to open.
In the summer of 2023, 15 of the city’s 18 pools opened while they recruited 145 certified lifeguards. This summer, the same number of pools are expected to open, but with 140 certified lifeguards.
The following pools are expected to open on Saturday, June 15, 2024:
- Ammon
- Banksville
- Bloomfield
- Highland
- Jack Stack
- Magee
- Mc Bride
- Moore
- Ormsby
- Phillips
- Riverview
- Sue Murray
- Schenley
- West Penn
- Westwood
“The staff at CitiParks worked diligently to recruit and hire enough lifeguards for the 2024 Pool Season,” said Mayor Ed Gainey in a press release. “I am thankful for their efforts that’s allowing us to once again open 15 Pools for the Summer.”
The pools that will remain closed for the summer season are Homewood, Ream and Sheraden. Homewood and Sheraden will remain closed due to renovations, and Ream will be closed due to cement and liner issues.
Ream and Bloomfield will trade places this summer on the list of opening pools due to Bloomfield’s fresh renovations since its closing last summer. Sheraden Pool needs extensive electrical and safety renovations before it opens. Homewood and Ream are likely to reopen in 2025 after the renovations are completed.
The hours of operation for the 15 pools will be announced in the coming weeks after the lifeguards’ schedule is finalized. Season passes can be picked up during opening day on June 15 for $60 for four people and $30 for individuals while children under 15 swim free.
