Pittsburgh Food Truck Park to Open First Weekend in April

Clear your schedule and come hungry — the park kickoff has 15 food trucks in two days.

When the weather gives us a taste of spring, the owners of the Pittsburgh Food Truck Park in Millvale want to offer a taste of something else. Starting April 6, the former Riverfront Skate Park will become the Pittsburgh Food Truck Park.

Starting on April 6 the park will be open for “limited weekend hours” — diners may choose from a rotating menu of different food trucks each day. The park pre-books the vendors in advance so that hungry customers will know what to expect if they check online.

The opening will feature food from Doce, Mac & Gold, Brisketburgh, Sugar & Spice and more, as well as craft beers, wine and live music. The full list of food trucks, vendors and musical acts that will be at the park on opening weekend is available at the park’s website.

Construction on the park’s indoor space (part of the old Millvale Public Works building) and rooftop deck will continue throughout April. Park programming begins April 7 with outdoor yoga hosted by the Millvale Yoga Collective.

It’s no secret that April weather in Pittsburgh can be unpredictable — the owners told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that they’ll open the park only from 4 to 11 p.m. Fridays and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays “so you can take advantage of any pleasant spring days that happen to pop up.”

When the weather becomes warmer and more stable, the owners say they plan to open the park on Sundays and Mondays as well. The Food Truck Park teased the concept of a permanent home for food trucks at its preview event in November. We won’t get that yet, but the park’s owners say they’d eventually like to be open seven days a week.
