Pittsburgh Artist’s Work to be Featured at Thiel College

Benedict Oddi’s collection “Scouts and Nomads” will be on display in a campus gallery.

Pittsburgh artist Benedict Oddi’s collection “Scouts and Nomads” will be on display in the Weyers-Sampson Gallery of the Howard Miller Student Center at Thiel College in Greenville from Jan. 17 through Feb. 17.

In addition to exhibiting work in Chicago, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Las Vegas and elsewhere, he also has served as an adjunct professor for universities including Seton Hill, Clarion University of Pennsylvania and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

“Thiel is fortunate to have Benedict Oddi exhibit his work in our campus gallery,” says Sean McConnor, professor of painting and curator of art, in a press release. “Oddi’s work moves in interesting visual twists and turns which I think will excite and challenge viewers.”

An opening reception is planned for Jan. 17, beginning at 3 p.m. with a gallery talk and ending at 5 p.m.

“The desire for freedom, escape and exploration influence the narrative of my artworks,” Oddi says in a press release. “I create works that examine the possibility of utopia and dystopia through the escapist tendency to create a parallel realism. The depictions that I fashion are a method of storytelling through the invention and reuse of signs and symbols. The pictorial environments are meant to emphasize a disconnection to a tactile reality, where ideas and experiences are confused.”
