If the idea of waking up Friday around 2 a.m. to catch the lunar eclipse reach totality didn’t motivate you to get out of bed, don’t worry. Local photographer Dave DiCello woke up early so you didn’t have to.

“For maximum totality, I knew that I wanted something distinctive, and what’s more distinctive than the spires of PPG Place?” DiCello wrote on Facebook. “It was also out of necessity; while next year’s lunar eclipse is at moonset, this one was in the middle of the night, so I needed something that I could stand underneath. A bridge on the North Shore just wasn’t gonna cut it.”

DiCello also shared unobstructed photos of the moon, like the one below.

If these photos inspire you to wake up for the next lunar eclipse, you’ll have plenty of time to rest. The next total lunar eclipse will be visible from North America on March 3, 2026.
