Do you love or hate the snow, Pittsburgh? Maybe it’s a toss up. No one likes to drive in it, but it is nice to look at pretty pictures of any landscape covered in the fluffy white stuff.

Local photographer Dave DiCello did us all the courtesy of venturing out into the harsh weather to capture some photos of a snow-covered Steel City, including this shot of the Reynolds Street entrance to Frick Park in Point Breeze. DiCello took the photo Friday morning.

DiCello also captured the Carnegie Science Center with snow barreling down to create a snowglobe effect. The Science Center is expected to be renamed the Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin Science Center this year after the couple in 2024 announced their donation of $65 million to the institution. That’s why DiCello knew he had to capture this photo at some point, he wrote on Facebook.

“The ‘Carnegie’ name has already been removed above the main entrance, but I wanted to capture a snowglobe of the building where it still had it on their somewhere, and this was the best angle to do so even if it’s small,” he wrote.

DiCello also ventured to the Smithfield Street Bridge where he captured this photo.

Here’s a shot of Sheffield Street in Manchester. DiCello wrote that a snow plow cleared the road just before he arrived — his only complaint with the shot! But drivers must have been grateful.

Capturing snowfall comes with challenges, DiCello explained on Facebook.

“If it’s snowing too hard, that’s great for snowglobe images in the city, but the farther away you get, the more difficult it can be to see the city if it’s really snowing hard.

“Luckily I caught a little lull in the storm and was able to capture this view as the incline was climbing Mt. Washington.”
