Bundle up, Pittsburgh.

The cold weather has brought with it freezing ice that has put the Allegheny River on pause. The ice even caused a blockage at the city’s water plant on Tuesday.

Local photographer Dave DiCello braved the cold to capture these photos of the ice.

“I was able to capture some panoramas of the sky as it lit up over the frozen river, creating one of those fire and ice sunrises,” DiCello wrote on a Facebook post in reference to the above photo.
“I’ll have a lot more to share, but I think that this one is my favorite.”

DiCello on Monday night tried to capture the Northern Lights.

“… while I did capture a faint purple glow that was clearly the aurora, by the time conditions were favorable the clouds rolled in, so unfortunately I struck out,” DiCello wrote on Facebook.

He tried again Tuesday morning.

“Not wanting to waste a trip into the city, I headed down between the Sister Bridges as I was surprised to see so much ice on the river already,” DiCello wrote, describing the above photo.

“There were some huge spots along the dock, allowing for some fun compositions like this one of the Andy Warhol Bridge. I just love how the frozen rivers really make those bridge lights shine.”
