Beginning January 8, “take off” on a tropical adventure during the National Aviary’s newest season, Rainforest Retreat! Listen to the sounds of birds from amazing destinations all over the world, like a Great Argus making his signature “WOO-WOO” call in the Tropical Rainforest habitat.

Each immersive habitat brings you to a new world full of vibrant birds, warm air, and a magnificent soundscape.
Explore the Wetlands and see fabulous flamingoes wading in a pool alongside Brown Pelicans, adorable Puna Teals, and Roseate Spoonbills!
Get close to African Penguins in a hybrid indoor/outdoor habitat where you can watch the adorable flightless birds from the warmth of the indoors! Hear the deep, trumpet-like calls of these tuxedoed birds, called brays, and watch them dive into the chilly waters below! Get even closer in a Penguin Encounter!
Enjoy new engaging Daily Activities included with admission. “Fabulous Flamingoes” Expert Talk will give guests the inside scoop on what the vocalizations of this fascinating species mean! An engaging game of “Tweet That Tune,” offers up a game show for guests to will guess the signature calls of their favorite birds. Learn all about the historical importance of brightly-hued canaries during a “Mining Marvels” Expert Talk.
