More than 270 Events Announced for Remake Learning’s 9-Day Festival

The festival has gained national attention for its innovative design.

The third annual Remake Learning Days is back with more than 270 events in neighborhoods across southwest Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Presented by Remake Learning, a North Shore-based network of people and organizations focused on educational innovations, the nine-day learning festival will be held May 17-25 with guests from across the country touring various events to adapt ideas and best practices to their regions.

“We are thrilled that other cities will soon be adopting this creative, hands on approach for education,” said Remark Learning Days producer Dorie Taylor in a press release. “Our goal since the inception of Remake Learning Days in 2016 has been to spark a learning revolution for this generation of PreK-12 students, inspiring them as well as the adults in their lives to meet their futures head on.”

Events will be hosted by local schools, museums, libraries, companies, recreation centers and community-based organizations and will be grouped around themes such as arts, maker learning, outdoor learning, science, technology and youth voice. Most events are free and will be hands-on technology-infused learning experiences. The Remake Learning Days Kickoff will include a light breakfast, opening remarks and learning opportunities after which attendees can explore the fair. 1,800 student finalists from around the world who have conducted groundbreaking research in 22 STEM fields will have their work featured during the fair.

This year’s Remake Learning Days targets four Pittsburgh neighborhoods to help close the education equity gap: Homewood, Hazelwood, the Hill District and the North Side.

Teacher and community champions will be recognized for their service as outstanding advocates for innovative, hands-on learning opportunities for the youth. Community champions encourage families to prepare their children for the future and teacher champions offer creative instruction and transformation in the classroom.

“By connecting [students] with ideas that tap into their passions, we hope to encourage them to embrace education as a bridge to this future,” says Taylor.
