Jeremy Renner and company are returning to Pittsburgh, even as a key location change for “Mayor of Kingstown” looms.

Filming will commence on the fourth season of the Paramount+ series in January and is scheduled to last through May. The series, which has filmed extensively in the area, has made use of the former Western Penitentiary site on the banks of the Ohio River in Marshall-Shadeland. That site will soon be unavailable, however, as the Post-Gazette reported last month that plans to demolish the shuttered prison are set to move forward in late 2025.

Will the loss of a key set mean “Mayor of Kingstown” has to find a new location for future seasons?

Pittsburgh Magazine reached out to Dawn Keezer, executive director of the Pittsburgh Film Office, who remains “hopeful” that arrangements can be made to get “Mayor of Kingstown” necessary access to the Western Penitentiary site to film potential fifth-season content.

Failing that, she says, “we will look for alternatives that will keep them here in southwestern Pennsylvania.”

In the meantime, CBS Pittsburgh reports that “Mayor of Kingstown” is currently seeking extras to appear in the upcoming season. Hopefuls can apply at movieextraspittsburgh.com for a chance to appear in the series.
