Soar into Spring During Limited-Time Nesting in Nature at the National Aviary
Spring sprung early at the National Aviary thanks to warm, tranquil habitats, from the steamy Tropical Rainforest to the vibrant Wetlands. Their newest seasonal theme, Nesting in Nature, “hatches” January 7 to dovetail with the start of family-building for a plethora of delightful bird species.
Get up close to these beautiful bird parents as you learn about the dynamic world of nesting: from the ground-dwelling Eurasian Eagle-Owl duo X and Dumbledore, to the intricate weave work of Crested Oropendolas, and even the haphazard layering of sticks and leaves of the Victoria Crowned Pigeon pair Isabelle and Ferdinand.
During NEW seasonal Daily Activities such as Nurturing Nesters: Expert Feeding, included with General Admission, guests will learn how species custom-build unique nests for their feathered families. Birds aren’t the only nest-builders, as guests will discover during Not Just Bird Eggs: Expert Talk, featuring a rotating Animal Ambassador.
Bright, seasonal decor is sure to remedy your winter blues as you explore the Aviary. Kids of all ages will enjoy interactive play spaces, including a Junior Veterinary Center, a Nesting Navigation Station, and a cozy book nook.
Get even closer to incredible birds during Passport to Parks, presented by AAA Travel. Go on a guided eco-tour of national parks around the world, from the shores of Australia to African grasslands. Meet birds like Clover, the majestic Gray Crowned-Crane with a nearly six foot wingspan, and Izzy, a Curl-crested Aracari, who will fly to the hand of a few lucky travelers for a snack!
This season is also packed with Special Event Weekends including Penguin-Palooza on Saturday and Sunday, January 24-25. Meet the Penguin Point colony and enjoy family-friendly themed activities, included with admission. Fan-favorite Flamingo Fest returns Saturday and Sunday, February 28-March 1. Guests can come dressed in pink and meet the loveable Wetlands flock, attend Expert Talks, and enjoy pink-tastic activities and photo ops. Following the theme of Nesting in Nature, hop over for two weekends of Eggstravaganza, a spring celebration, Saturday and Sunday, March 28 – 29 and Friday and Saturday, April 3 – 4!
Each National Aviary visit offers a unique experience, with seasonal Daily Activities for all ages, exciting Special Event Weekends, and Animal Encounters, including the limited time-only Falcon Encounter. Warm up inside lush habitats and get close to incredible birds (and a sloth!) from all over the world, without leaving Pittsburgh.
The National Aviary is open daily from 10 am – 5 pm and closed on Tuesdays through March. For more information and to get tickets, visit aviary.org.
