Three Pitt business experts have made it easier to shop local for the holidays.

Instead of wading through crowds and waiting in long checkout lines only to have your money be go to another corporation's bank account, what if you shopped another way?
Three women have partnered with Pitt’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence to create a 2017 holiday season #ShopSmall guide — a 30-page gift guide full of products available from 22 Pittsburgh businesses. The digital book includes four categories: gifts for her, him, the kids and the home.
The group created the list to help Pittsburgh shoppers find the perfect holiday gifts and make personal connections with business owners in the process. Take a quick break in the middle of the morning chaos at a place you may pass every day. Bring a new and unwrapped toy to the Steel Plaza Port Authority station Downtown between 6-9 a.m. The Port Authority joins Q92.9 FM and the U.S. Marine Corps to collect for Toys for Tots.

Just one more item to add to your weekend to do list — the new Patagonia store opens Dec.7 in Shadyside, and plenty of festivities are on tap.
There will be treats from Coffee Tree Roasters, Arriviste Coffee Bar, The Commonplace Coffee Co., Prantl’s Bakery and more in the mornings from Thursday through Sunday, and “Patagonia Provisions” in the afternoons from The Vandal. Three Rivers Waterkeeper and East End Brewing Company will be there Thursday starting at 3 p.m. to brew into Patagonia Pittsburgh pint cups.
The store will also give away Patagonia branded bandanas and patches designed by local artist Daniel Gurwin.
