Pittsburgh International Airport debuted a new quality men’s store this week in Concourse B as part of a refresh of its shops and restaurants to prepare for the opening of its new $1.7 billion terminal opening this fall.

Hammer Made, founded by Jason Hammerberg in Minneapolis in 2009, provides a collection of jackets, shirts, belts, pants, shorts and other menswear, all made with European fabrics and designed by Hammerberg or staff. This is the third location to open in an airport, the first in Minneapolis and second in Miami. Others are in malls.

“Hammer Made is known for its premium men’s shirts and accessories…and blending refined tailoring with unexpected details,” said Travis McNichols, chief operations officer at the Allegheny County Airport Authority.

Tim Creagan, a store consultant and former manager of the Minneapolis airport store, was on hand for the grand opening. The jackets, he said, are designed to be crunched up and placed in a backpack if necessary and don’t wrinkle. He said belts are a big seller in its airport stores because some men don’t wear belts through security and buy them later, or others leave them behind. Their buckles are removable to adapt to different sizes. Prices of shirts range from $100-$150; belts about $70.

More new shops are scheduled to open before the new terminal opens, which is expected in October. They include the region’s second location of Shake Shack, a fast-casual restaurant based in New York. It will open in the former McDonald’s location in the center core; Mineo’s Pizza House, a Squirrel Hill institution, also will be in the center core.

Two locally owned coffee chains: Convive Coffee will be opening to Concourse A and Wexford-based Cafe Conmigo in the center core across from Sarris Candies. Also in the center core will be Mi Casa Cantina, a Mexican restaurant at the entrance of Concourse B, Bad Egg Breakfast Bar, a breakfast place found in other airports, and Stack + Press Delicatessen.
