Find Out Where You Can Selfie With a Giant Heinz Ketchup Bottle
One of the iconic Heinz ketchup bottles, which adorned Acrisure Stadium during its Heinz Field days, has found a new home — and you can get up close for a photo.
Even by Pittsburgh standards, it was a strange sight.
Visitors watched and news cameras rolled Thursday morning as a 35-foot ketchup bottle was installed into a corner outside the Heinz History Center in the Strip District. The towering Heinz bottle, which until July 2022 stood guard over Acrisure Stadium (previously named Heinz Field), nestled naturally into a notch in the facade of the museum, sitting atop a green pedestal, its label facing Downtown.
When Acrisure bought the naming rights for the Steelers’ home turf, the bottles were removed amid public outcry. A year later, however, both bottles are back on display; the other can be found at the Heinz Gate at Acrisure Stadium.
The Heinz bottle can be found on Smallman Street, near the intersection with 12th Street. Visitors can pose for pictures underneath the bottle’s platform — or, with some fancy camerawork, include the massive condiment in a selfie.
There’s even another football photo op nearby: The goalposts from Three Rivers Stadium can be found about a first down away.Installation is scheduled to be completed today, and the area should be clear for photos by Friday. No admission is required to see the Heinz bottle — but the Heinz History Center, which also includes the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum, is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday before closing on Christmas and reopening on Dec. 26.
