Downtown Pittsburgh’s Farmers Market Is Moving — But Only a Block Away
Construction begins in April to redesign Market Square, so PPG Place Plaza will be the new home for the farmers market and Yoga on the Square this summer season.
As construction kicks off next month to revamp Downtown’s Market Square, the popular Farmer’s Market and Yoga in the Square sessions will be moving just a block away to PPG Place Plaza.
Going into its 21st season, the Farmers Market will open May 15, running every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine.
The Yoga in the Square series will kick off on May 11 and be held on Sunday 10 to 11 a.m. and Tuesday 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. through the end of September. Aither Yoga, after recently re-opening in Downtown this year, will teach the free classes. Both the farmers market and yoga sessions are hosted by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.
Market Square is set to begin construction on April 1 as part of a “Vision Plan” to reimagine three green spaces Downtown that also will include Arts Landing and Point State Park.
The focal point of the $15 million project in Market Square will be the addition of the Market Anchor, a pergola-like, semi-circular pavilion inspired by the semi-circular building in the market more than 200 years ago. Traffic patterns around the square will also be changed, along with the removal of cobblestone from the perimeter for ADA compliant accessibility.
The project is expected to take one year and be fully completed by April 2026, just in time for the throngs of fans expected to descend on Pittsburgh for the NFL Draft April 23-25
