Cookie Table Contest: And the Winner Is …
We introduce the winner and the runners up for our biannual cookie table contest.

Ryan McGann and Alexis Schaming’s golden doodle, Dorrie, wasn’t able to make it to their wedding on May 13, 2017 at the Heinz History Center, but she was there in spirit through miniature cake pops made in her image.
“It was a fun little twist,” says Alexis, who commissioned Bella Christie & Lil’ Z’s Sweet Boutique to make the cake pops as a surprise for her husband. “They turned out perfect.”
The rest of their cookie table, which Alexis estimates included more than 5,000 treats, offered monogrammed sugar cookies from Bella Christie, apricot bowtie cookies, biscotti, pizzelles, church window cookies, lady locks, peanut butter coconut logs, peanut butter blossoms and tassies, caramel cups, macaroons, Italian peach cookies, Russian tea cakes, frosted orange cookies, thumbprints, mini cheesecakes, Swedish nut horns, Linzer heart cookies, mini cannoli and more.
Alexis says she and her aunt Kate started baking in January, and it turned into a group effort of family and friends.
“I wanted a wow factor at my wedding, and the cookie table was definitely that,” she says. —Lauren Davidson

Christina Valli’s sister had a huge cookie table at her wedding catered by Bella Christie & Lil’ Z’s Sweet Boutique, so when Christina was preparing for her own wedding to Domenico Bigante, she knew she wanted something similarly lavish. Her Italian groom was on board since it was a tradition in his family to have a cookie table at weddings.
“It was very important for my husband’s family to make a cookie table,” Christina says.
At the couple’s Aug. 12 wedding at Fox Chapel Golf Club, there were 88 dozen homemade cookies, everything from lemon cookies, thumbprint cookies and peanut butter kiss cookies to cream puffs. Bella Christie provided gourmet desserts including tartlets, cheesecakes and buttercream cookies, as well as some gluten-free options.
To top off the cookie table, the couple offered a three-tier buttercream vanilla cake. —Victoria Bails
Second Runner Up

John Kennedy and Megan Loughran’s cookie table was so large it required a private room completely dedicated to the dessert at their reception on July 1 at the University Club in Oakland.
With the help of family and friends, the couple had more than 300 dozen cookies at their wedding.
“I really love a pretty cool cookie table,” John says. “It is something special to this region.”
The couple had no specific requests when it came down to what kinds of cookies they wanted, but their family and friends ended up baking some from own their cultures, including Greek, Polish and Irish. John says his grandmother started baking the week John proposed to Megan, making a couple dozen cookies a week.
Another special feature at their table was an idea they borrowed from Megan’s best friend after attending her wedding: small milk jugs available on ice on the table. The couple thought the children attending the wedding would enjoy having milk to go with their cookies, but they say the adults ended up taking advantage of it even more. —Victoria Bails
