Convive Coffee, a Pittsburgh-based chain that’s known for its Pay-It-Forward coffee wall to spread kindness, is the latest shop to announce it will open at Pittsburgh International Airport.

The local cafe, which has locations on the North Shore, Lawrenceville, McCandless and Mars, will open in Concourse A.

Bryan Dietz, senior vice president of Air Service and Commercial Development at PIT, told Blue Sky News, the airport’s news service, that adding more options to the mix of concessions has been requested by local travelers and visitors who want additional sit-down dining and coffee-led options.

All these plans are underway as the airport prepares to open its $1.57 billion terminal later this year.

Convive, which opened its first location in the North Hills, offers a Brewing Kindness wall in which patrons purchase a pay-it-forward sleeve for $8 to offer drinks or food for other customers. At the North Shore location, for example, there was a sleeve “For someone facing housing insecurity. Keep Going!” Another read, “For the parent with a child who decided to randomly stop sleeping all night. I got you.”

Among other new local restaurants and cafes joining the concessions in the terminal’s Center Core are Mineo’s Pizza House and Cafe Conmigo.

The location for McDonald’s, which has closed permanently, will soon welcome Shake Shack, a popular international brand. Marathon Diner, which is operating out of temporary quarters, will move to its permanent spot in a few weeks, also in the Center Core. Other restaurants coming to the Center Core are Jimmy John’s sandwich shop and Sambazon Acai Bowls. Among new stores in the Center Core will be MAC Cosmetics, Champion City Sports and Duquesne Supply Co., a gift shop that will offer merchandise by local artisans and national brands.
