Smile! Pittsburgh’s Street-Sweeping Trucks Now Have Cameras
The trucks will collect license plate data to send violators tickets in the mail.
The City of Pittsburgh is turning to technology to target motorists who don’t move their cars on street sweeping days.
The program, which runs through Nov. 30, is now using smart cameras on Pittsburgh Parking Authority vehicles to collect license plate data on cars parked along the street on designated sweeping days, which occur once a month on most city residential streets. The citations will be sent through the mail.
Residents can find the street sweeping schedule on signs in their neighborhood.
“Our goal is to keep Pittsburgh’s streets clean and safe for all residents,” Mayor Ed Gainey said in a statement. “By integrating automated enforcement, we can improve compliance with parking regulations, making street sweeping more effective and ensuring our neighborhoods stay well-maintained.”
