There’s a new place to play in Boyce Park that will challenge your climbing and riding skills.

Allegheny County has cut the ribbon on a new $4.7 million facility in the park in Monroeville that offers one of the largest series of bouldering walls in the nation and the largest pump track in southwestern Pennsylvania.

The free park offers 6,000 square feet of bouldering challenges with walls up to 15 feet tall. It can be used by climbers of all skill levels.

The pump track is an 800-foot-long, closed loop, paved track with rollers — small hills (bumps of waves) built into the track and berms – rounded corners. With this design, bikes often don’t need a lot of pedaling or pushing to move. They’re a good training ground to develop handling, control and balance skills while navigating the track.

The track can accommodate bikes, scooters, skateboards and roller or inline skates.

The new park also features two rain gardens that filter stormwater, as well as new landscaping and seating areas. A flush restroom will be added later this year.

It was built in response to a 2020 study by the Pennsylvania Environmental Council and local firms, identifying the need to expand free access to outdoor sports, particularly for underserved communities.

The Allegheny County Regional Asset District provided $500,000 toward the project. It was designed and constructed by local businesses.

This new park is located next to the Boyce Skate Park at 300 Wave Pool Way, Monroeville 15239.
