An upcoming concert featuring rock legends Billy Joel and Rod Stewart has been canceled after Joel announced he’s recovering from a recently diagnosed brain disorder.

The 76-year-old performer announced Friday via social media that he’s been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus, a condition that can occur when spinal fluid builds up and applies pressure to the brain. The disorder can disrupt cognition and movement, necessitating that Joel not perform for the foreseeable future.

“Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health,” according to Joel’s social-media accounts. “He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage.”

Joel had been on an international tour, with many shows featuring co-headliners including Stewart, Stevie Nicks and Sting. Several recent dates had already been postponed without Joel’s team acknowledging the nature of his condition; he hoped to return to the road in Pittsburgh, at the previously scheduled July 5 show at Acrisure Stadium.

Joel last performed on Feb. 22 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. His most recent Pittsburgh appearance was an August 2022 show at PNC Park.

Tickets purchased through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded. Tickets purchased on the secondary market may need to be refunded by sellers.
