For the First Time, Pittsburgh International Airport Launches Nonstop Flights to Ireland
The new service with Aer Lingus begins in 2026 — and flights already are available for booking.
Steelers Nation already has made its way there, but for any Pitt fan planning to make the trip to Ireland to watch the Panthers take on the Wisconsin Badgers in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in 2027, the commute just got a whole lot easier.
On Thursday, Pittsburgh International Airport officials announced that Aer Lingus, for the first time, will add nonstop flights from PIT to Dublin Airport in 2026.
Beginning May 25, flights on Aer Lingus, the Irish flag carrier, will take place Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The route will operate year-round with a brief pause in January and February. The flights already are available for booking; fares start from $519 roundtrip.
The Irish airline worked closely with partners in the region, including the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh International Airport and VisitPITTSBURGH, to launch the new service, which officials say will strengthen the cultural, sporting and business connections between western Pennsylvania and Ireland.
Already, Aer Lingus is an official airline partner to the Pittsburgh Steelers; in September, players flew on the airline to Dublin for a historic, sold-out game at Croke Park.
“The Pittsburgh region’s connections to Ireland run deep — both in today’s strong business market and ancestral ties — and this is a route that community leaders have been seeking,” says Pittsburgh International Airport CEO Christina Cassotis in a statement. “We are thrilled to have a partner in Aer Lingus that will serve Pittsburgh’s growing market for nonstop service to Ireland and beyond, and we look forward to welcoming even more European travelers to Pittsburgh.”
With the addition of Dublin, Pittsburgh’s airport now features three trans-Atlantic routes, which already include London and Reykjavik. The new route will be the 63rd non-stop destination from PIT. It also increases the airport’s number of airline carriers to 16.
“Aer Lingus is particularly pleased to add Pittsburgh to our transatlantic network, having worked closely with partners in the region to make this a possibility,” says Susanne Carberry, Aer Lingus’s chief customer officer, in a statement. “This route builds on our strong partnership with the Pittsburgh Steelers and further cements Aer Lingus’ position as a leading transatlantic carrier.”
From Dublin, Aer Lingus offers connections to a number of markets, including Irish destinations such as Donegal, as well as to major European cities, among them Amsterdam, Berlin, Madrid, Paris and Rome.
The announcement comes at a time of major transformation for the airport. In November, PIT unveiled its new $1.7 billion terminal to much fanfare.
