‘The Pitt’ Lands 13 Emmy Nominations
The popular medical drama set in Pittsburgh wins recognition for outstanding drama series, lead actor and more.
The Pittsburgh-based medical show, “The Pitt,” earned 13 nominations for the 2025 Emmys Awards with recognition in major categories like outstanding drama series and lead actor for Noah Wyle’s role as Dr. Robby.
The show received other key nominations, including outstanding supporting actress for Katherine LaNasa’s role as Dana Evans and outstanding guest actor for Shawn Hatosy as Dr. Jack Abbot. It was additionally recognized in categories such as directing, writing, casting, contemporary makeup, prosthetic makeup, sound editing and sound mixing.
After premiering in January, the HBO Max series quickly gained attention for its captivating — and sometimes gruesome — portrayal of an emergency room. Across its 15 episodes, the freshman drama follows Dr. Robby, with each episode depicting one hour of a fast-paced 15-hour shift that comprises the entirety of season one.
Even Pittsburgh’s own medical professionals gave the show credit for being an accurate depiction of their field.
HBO Max announced that Season 2 of “The Pitt” began production in June, and it is scheduled to return in January 2026.
While set in Pittsburgh, most of the production for the show and the backdrop of the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center takes place in Burbank, California. But thanks to exterior shots of the North Side’s Allegheny General Hospital and Downtown, Pittsburgh still gets some deserved screen time, as well as local references to the Freedom House Ambulance Service, Giant Eagle, “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” Primanti’s sandwiches and more.
The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television and John Wells Productions, which additionally introduced “E.R.” — the series that scored Noah Wyle his last Emmy nomination as a supporting actor 26 years ago.
“The Pitt” will compete against other highly nominated shows, including “Severance,” “The Penguin” and “White Lotus.” The 77th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will air live at 8 p.m on Sunday, Sept. 14.
