Dr. Eloho Ufomata Campbell hopes there’ll be health equity in the future. Personally, she’d love to be known for taking a humanistic approach to medicine and for “moving the needle” on health equity as a physician educator.

While living out her dream of working as a doctor, the native of Nigeria does gender-affirming care and hospital medicine with UPMC and works on University of Pittsburgh curriculum. As a Black woman in medicine, she says she is present and at the table to show others “they can do this.”

She notes that her two most important honors professionally are the Golden Apple Award, bestowed by Pitt’s class of 2021 students, and the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award from Pitt’s School of Medicine. Ufomata Campbell also was the initiator of what UPMC now calls the White Coats Against Racism and Injustice Kneel.
