2023 40 Under 40 Honoree: Chastity Bey (28)

“My goal is to be a positive role model to [the students I work with] and to allow them to see that people who do important work do have time to support them.”

Bey ChastityChastity Bey
Community Nature Educator, Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy

Two themes that weave throughout Chastity Bey’s life are community and connection.

Through her work with Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, she plans Earth Month activities, school initiatives and other youth-centric and outreach programming. Bey’s link to the conservancy traces to her high school years, when she participated in a 2010 program as a student at Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy; she carried that connection to the conservancy forward, much like other bonds she’s formed (some of the relationships she develops on the job provide connections for volunteer opportunities).

Though she originally thought she’d work in science, she joined the conservancy team in 2015. Outside of her day job, she works with youth (efforts have included completing Multiplying Good’s springtime ChangeMakers cohort) and became a yoga instructor in the spring, aiming to attract a diverse population to classes.
