Greene County

Drive Time From Downtown: 1 hour

co.greene.pa.us

With its winding country roads, rolling hills and sylvan forests, it’s no wonder Martha Stewart Living named Greene County among the best leaf-peeping drives in the country. This quiet corner of the state marks the woodsy frontier between Pennsylvania and West Virginia—and it’s beautiful: Arborphiliacs will delight in the variety of tree species, from red maples to hickory and dogwood. Take a leisurely ride around long curves, then plunge through one of Greene County’s many covered bridges such as The White Bridge near George Fort.

For true nature lovers, the Warrior Trail is a hiker’s dream: This 68-mile path begins in Greensboro and follows hilly ridges. Just when you think it’s over, West Virginia continues the trail for 22 more miles—perfect for a day trip or overnight. What’s more, the Warrior Trail provided access to Native Americans for more than 4,000 years.
