Academic - A nurse contributing as a well-rounded faculty member in nursing who demonstrates educational excellence, use of educational best practices, scholarly productivity, and service to the profession

Advanced Practitioner - A nurse who is certified to practice at an advanced level and who has demonstrated exceptional dedication to the delivery and improvement of high-quality patient care

Clinical Instructor/Educator - A nurse who is engaged in the education of students or professional nurses in the simulation laboratory and/or health care setting. The nurse is a role model to students and/or nurses in exemplifying culturally sensitive, competent, evidence-based care.

Clinician - A nurse serving as a clinical expert in their field of expertise (informatics, ICU, Emergency, etc.), who mentors others, and improves the care of their patients

Community/Ambulatory - A nurse who practices in the community setting and has contributed to improved population health outcomes in a specific area. Examples: School Nurse, Home Care, Clinics, Health Care Centers

Leadership/Executive - A nurse who functions in a senior leadership role (director and above) who has introduced novel and successful processes to improve patient care and/or nurse retention throughout a service line to system

Emerging Leader - A nurse who is serving in a beginning leadership level (unit manager and below) who has introduced innovative care management processes at the microsystem level

Researcher - A nurse who has generated new knowledge through rigorous scientific inquiry which supports the practice of nursing and contributes to improved patient outcomes
