Spring Weddings 2019

Choosing which couples to feature is getting harder and harder.

I don’t think we’ve ever had such a long list of finalists for our Real Pittsburgh Weddings as we did for this issue. We typically choose 10 couples for the feature piece, and this year we had at least 10 more whose stories and photos we obsessed over.

The 100-plus submissions showed us that couples are getting more elaborate in their proposals and incorporating more personal details into their day, making the stories behind the weddings — and the photos — more interesting than ever.

Take Shane Gring and Skyler Roeshot and Austin Kuffel and Aubrey Borowitz, who incorporated their beloved pups into their days — complete with outfits to match. Brody Nasse planned a full-day scavenger hunt for his proposal to Dr. Anna Manukyan, and the couple did their own flower arrangements as well as letter-pressed their own stationery, invitations, menus and ceremony programs in both English and Russian to accommodate Anna’s family.

Speaking of details, look for subtle nods to the iconic red rose in the “Beauty and the Beast”-inspired styled shoot found here.

Local photographer Kathryn Hyslop and wedding planners Antoinette Yelenic and Lauren Virgin of A & L Events created a romantic setting at Buhl Mansion in Sharon to showcase local vendors, and the result is stunning.

Of course, there’s something to be said for simplicity, and our feature story, Pop Goes the Wedding, highlights a local company helping couples pull off their dream day with minimal time and effort. A wedding day is an important celebration of the love between two people, but it’s also only one day; a marriage is made up of a lifetime.

Wishing all of our couples a very happy lifetime together.
