A New Chapter: Drs. Nicholas Farber & Stephanie Dreifuss

May 26, 2018

When Nicholas Met Stephanie:
Nicholas Farber and Stephanie Dreifuss, both of whom attended the University of Pittsburgh for medical school, met at a pivotal moment of their education — the white coat ceremony. A rite of passage for medical students, the ceremony marks their journey into the medical field. Stephanie knew she would be entering a new chapter of her life, but she didn’t know that she would be meeting her future husband. As she walked into the building, Nicholas introduced himself at the top of the stairs. They eventually became friends and study partners; at the end of their second year of med school, things were different.

“When I realized he was someone I could study with, I realized he was special,” Stephanie says.

Stephanie’s mother snapped a picture of Stephanie walking into the doors of the Pitt Medical Building before the white coat ceremony, unknowingly capturing Nicholas and Stephanie’s first meeting. They re-created the photo on their wedding day.

She Said Yes.
Nicholas was working on his urologic surgery residency in New Jersey but planned a trip to Pittsburgh to see Stephanie, who is completing a plastic surgery residency at UPMC, with the proposal planned out. He told her they would be going to a wine tasting at Pittsburgh Winery, and when they arrived, the owner took them on a private tour. Stephanie noticed Nicholas wasn’t eating or drinking — just smiling at her.

She watched him take out a long bracelet box that he said was a birthday present for her. When she opened the box, she found another surprise. Inside was a Pandora bracelet with charms spelling out the words: “Marry me.”

“We’re always trying to trick and outsmart the other one,” she says. “And he got me that time.”

The Big Day.
Stephanie started planning right after the engagement, choosing a color palette of gold, blush and ivory and adding sparkly details throughout the decor. They also had drinks named after their medical specialties — perfect for the two doctors.

“It was a complete dream come true,” Stephanie says. “Knowing that everyone is there to support you, it’s complete joy.”

Happily Ever After.
After the excitement of their wedding, Stephanie and Nicholas say the calm and romantic environment of Napa Valley provided exactly what they needed in a honeymoon. They are currently back to a long-distance relationship while Nicholas finishes his last year of residency.
