A Perfect Day: Jake Fallon & Hannah Polkis

photos by Rachel Rowland Photography

September 16, 2017

When Jake Met Hannah.
Not many married couples can say that they’ve known each other since middle school. But Jake Fallon and Hannah Polkis met in 2004 in their fifth grade class at Haine Middle School in Cranberry Township, and Hannah often wrote about Jake in her diary.

“I wrote that [he] was cute and weird but funny at times,” she says with a laugh.

During their senior year of high school, Jake heard through the grapevine that Hannah liked him, so he made several attempts to talk to her, but she couldn’t believe he was actually interested in her so she didn’t really respond. She finally got up the courage to talk to him, and he asked her out. They started dating in November 2010 and went to college together at Penn State Behrend in Erie.

She Said Yes.
Hannah had an idea that Jake was going to propose because they had been discussing getting engaged, but she didn’t know his plan was to do it on a trip in 2015 to Florida to visit his aunt and uncle.

On their second night there, Jake suggested the couple go for a walk on the beach and watch the sunset. When they found the perfect spot, Jake got down on one knee and asked Hannah to marry him. But there was one hiccup — the box he thought held the ring was actually full of his aunt’s diamond earrings; Jake had given the ring to his uncle to hide, and his uncle had accidentally given him the wrong box. His uncle, who was one of the family members waiting to surprise Hannah after the proposal, quickly ran home to retrieve it, saving the day.

“I couldn’t have cared less what was in the box,” Hannah says. “All that mattered was that my dream guy, the man God created just for me, [wanted] to make me his wife.”

The Big Day.
Jake and Hannah were married under a willow tree at Rustic Acres Farm in Volant. To complement their rustic-chic theme, they hung a chandelier and ivory drapery from the tree, a perfect backdrop as they said their vows.

Their wedding day details included lush greenery, floral bouquets, gold accents, maroon bridesmaids’ dresses, navy suits for the groomsmen and a classic Pittsburgh cookie table. Hannah’s favorite moment of the day was her walk down the aisle, where her stepfather and her father gave her away while “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri played in the background.

“It was the best day,” Hannah says. “It was perfect.”

Happily Ever After.
Hannah, 25, and Jake, also 25, live in Blacksburg, Va., while Jake is in graduate school at Virginia Tech. Hannah works as a neonatal intensive care nurse at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The couple lives with their 3-year-old Goldendoodle, Hudson, and are expecting their first baby in January.
