Favorable Wedding Favors: Unique Momentos for Guests

Most couples send their guests home with mementos of their special day — but many get creative with the item of choice.

Lois Ribich says her mother has been planning her cookie table since the day she found out she’d be having a girl. With Lois’ Dec. 3 wedding to Cody Nunn falling near Christmas, they saw the perfect opportunity to encourage guests to take cookies home with them — by offering Christmas cookie tins (below) as wedding favors. Each tin was decorated with an “ugly Christmas sweater” tag that Lois found at Michaels. Additionally, the couple gave out cookie recipe books, which included some of the varieties present on the big day in honor of the bride’s grandmother, for whom the bride is named, who had recently passed away.

For their Sept. 4 wedding, Michelle Bradbury and Alex Pazuchanics created a library theme. They got the idea for their “mystery” book wedding favors from a pin on Pinterest, “Blind Date with a Book,” where books are wrapped in brown paper with a vague description written on them, “like an online dating profile.” The couple decided to emulate the concept and began acquiring books at estate and library sales for bargain prices. They wrapped them in plain paper and guests chose their own book based off of the color of the ribbon it was wrapped with: Michelle’s picks were marked with red ribbon, Alex’s with blue.

The first mixed drink Anthony Caruso made for Kelly Pirring was a Moscow Mule — which quickly became the couple’s signature drink. So, when it came to finding an item to help their guests remember their Dec. 31 wedding, copper mugs seemed like the perfect option. They found a wholesale company based in California that supplied elegant mugs with a modern style, and they hung them on a wall decorated with flowers and greenery made by the bride’s father.
