Pittsburgh's Can't Miss Concerts in February

This month's lineup includes Jens Lekman, Donnie Iris, The Spinners and Travis Greene.

Feb. 3/ hearing the music of Jens Lekman is akin to sitting down to a traditional breakfast of Swedish pannkakor. the melodies — whether simple and plaintive or jangly and exuberant — always convey a familiar and warm feeling, like a bite of buttery pancake. Atop that, there’s a lyrical layer of wry nostalgia, melancholy, romance and humor, as sweet and tart and complex as a spoonful of lingonberry jam. Join the affable Swede for a taste of a wistful pop journey unlike any other. (The Andy Warhol Museum, 117 Sandusky St., North Shore; 412/237-8300, warhol.org)

Feb. 18/ The power of Palm, an emerging art rock band from the East Coast, comes from its complexity. While often jagged, the sound is precise and intentional; the instruments seem to be in a mathy conversation with each other. Who knows what they’re discussing (perhaps the merits of moving from the Hudson Valley to Philadelphia, of all places, or the value of a liberal arts degree in 2017). The fun is in the eavesdropping. (Club Café, 56-58 S. 12th St., South Side; 412/431-4950, clubcafelive.com)

Feb. 23-25/ The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has two Beethoven-forward shows in February: the iconic Symphony No. 5 early in the month and Bronfman Plays Beethoven. While the Piano Concerto No. 3 might be less familiar to the casual listener, the second movement is so simply and stunningly beautiful that this is a can’t-miss performance, especially with renowned visiting pianist Yefim Bronfman at the ivories. (Heinz Hall, 600 Penn Ave., Downtown; 412/392-4900, pittsburghsymphony.org)

Feb. 20/ Tyler, The Creator has been called a lot of negative things — abrasive, rude, no longer welcome in Australia, etc. — but he’s also making some of the most interesting music in hip-hop right now. His newest album, “Flower Boy,” is intricate, innovative, self-reflexive and fun to listen to. And maybe still a little rude. He’s joined on tour by Vince Staples, whose album, “Big Fish Theory,” was one of the best of 2017. (Stage AE, 400 North Shore Drive, North Shore; 412/229-5483, promowestlive.com)
