Marc-André Fleury Appreciation Day at the National Aviary

The National Aviary will name one of their African Penguins after the former (and beloved) Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender.

The National Aviary is chirping with excitement as it prepares to host Marc-André Fleury Appreciation Day from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. Friday.

“We just want to show appreciation for Marc-Andre Fleury as he is moving onto Las Vegas. He obviously meant a lot to a lot of Pittsburghers,” says Robin Weber, The National Aviary’s  Director of Marketing & Communications. “It’s just the chance to get together and show our Penguins pride and recognize him.”

The appreciation day will include penguin themed activities, a video montage of Fleury’s visits to the National Aviary, a painting penguin demonstration, and a visit from the Pittsburgh Penguins mascot, Iceburgh. Unfortunately, Fleury is unable to attend.

Anyone wearing Pittsburgh Penguins gear will receive a free raffle ticket with their admission. Among the prizes is a autographed Fleury jersey.

Along with the other activities planned, the aviary will name one of its new African Penguins after Fleury. That ceremony is set for 11:30 a.m.

So while Marc-André Fleury is no longer a Pittsburgh Penguin –– a Penguin named Fleury will continue to call Pittsburgh home.
