What You Need to Know About Pittsburgh's 200th Birthday Party

The day begins with a parade and ends with a concert and fireworks.

You only turn 200 once - right?

Pittsburgh will officially mark its bicentennial Saturday in a big way. Here's what's on tap:

Bicentennial parade
11 a.m. along Liberty Avenue starting at 11th Street and ending at Point State Park. 
 

  • Organized as a “human timeline,” Native Americans from the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center will lead the parade, followed by French and Indian War re-enactors.
     
  • Four hundred descendants of Pittsburgh Mayors from 1816 to present will be in the parade.
     
  • Andy Warhol and about a dozen other notable Pittsburghers will be represented by large puppets handcrafted exclusively for the parade.
     
  • Also marching will be Franco Harris, Larry Richert, Bruno Sammartino, Manny Sanguillen and Kent Tekulve.
     
  • The Stanley Cup will also have a spot in the parade lineup.
     

Free Healthy Ride
Hello Bistro and Healthy Ride have teamed up to offer free riding all day Saturday. There is no limit on trip duration. The free rate will automatically apply to all Healthy Ride rentals. All riders must have a Healthy Ride account to rent bicycles. New riders can set up an account online at healthyridepgh.com, on the nextbike app, or by calling Customer Service 412-535-5189.  

Concert and Fireworks

6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Point State Park. Performers include: 

  • Roger Humphries Jazz All-Stars 
     
  • Pittsburgh’s Country All Stars featuring: The Beagle Brothers & Slim Forsythe
     
  • Pittsburgh Oldies and Rock ‘n Roll All-Stars, featuring: Artistree  
     
  • Jack Hunt (from Johnny Angel’s group) & Bubba  
     
  • Fred Johnson & Kenny Mitchell  
     
  • Stevee Wellons  
     
  • David Granati  
     
  • Norm Nardini  
     
  • Shari Richards  
     
  • Billy Price  
     
  • Donnie Iris  

The fireworks show begins at 9:30 p.m.
