Pillow Talk: Pittsburgh's Skyline Inspires New Design Line

Check out the new pillow collection from local interior designer Zach Mitchell. Plus, get the scoop on The Pittsburgh Christmas Carol Tour.

How’s this for pillow talk?

Pittsburgh-based interior designer Zach Mitchell recently launched a collection of pillows inspired by downtown Pittsburgh’s vaunted skyline.

The line uses soft ikat textiles to evoke the city’s outline. Each pillow — which features a hand-embroidered tag with Mitchell’s logo and initials — is created on one sewing machine from Mitchell’s home studio. Mitchell also designed many of the textiles used to construct the products.

The owner of Zach Mitchell Interiors, Mitchell says he has had an enthusiastic response to the Pittsburgh pillows in particular. His online boutique also features a variety of other pillow designs, photo mats and prints.

“Pittsburgh loves to buy Pittsburgh stuff,” he says.

design inspiration

A new build by John Hobart Miller builders, this five-bedroom home in Fox Chapel was constructed using five different types of Philadelphia fieldstone. For the great room, the builder incorporated a carved limestone mantel as well as custom-made, hand-scraped walnut flooring with square pegs and “French Bleed” random-width flooring. The room’s coffered ceiling also is outfitted with LED lighting.
