Make a Trendy Transition into Fall Style

No. 14 Boutique in Lawrenceville put together this chic outfit for the tricky period when summer cools into autumn.

Summer to fall is definitely the hardest seasonal transition of the year. You go from wearing dresses and shorts to jeans and sweaters — and it can be hard to decipher which to choose on late August and September days.  

And while temperatures are still warm, stores are beginning to sell fall inventory, making it even more difficult to make good fashion decisions.

Well, stress no more. No. 14 Boutique in Lawrenceville has got you covered for the transition period. Brianne Conley, co-owner of the boutique, gives Pittsburgh Magazine a rundown on what trends to expect this season.

Denim, corduroy and faux suede will be big fabrics this year, she says. Also trendy for fall are dark floral patterns, which will add “a girly element in the season,” colored leather and “tattered” sweaters and sweatshirts.

As for accessories, a neck scarf will perfectly tie together any ensemble, she says. "Band-neck sweaters” that have a high neckline with a cutout below the neck also are hip for fall.

For the perfect transitional ensemble, Conley suggests this suede, wide-legged jumpsuit ($89) paired with an ivory long-sleeve shirt with ruffled sleeves ($68) and topped off with a patterned neck scarf ($21). She recommends pairing the look with open-toe mules for the perfect in-between seasons outfit.

Conley says the boutique’s transition line went on sale after the July 30 Open Streets of Pittsburgh event.
