Keep the Wedding Party Going With Extra Dancing Fuel

These couples kept their guests happy and satiated throughout their receptions with late-night snacks.

Let’s be honest: sometimes a reception can be long. After dinner and dessert, guests have only to drink and dance the night away, and that may leave them hungry. And nothing keeps hungry guests happier than late-night snacks.

“It is a great conversation starter and always an exciting treat towards the end of the evening,” Natalie Weiss, catering and events manager for Fairmont Pittsburgh Hotel, says.


A Sweet Treat.

Since she was a little girl, Katie Lynch dreamed of having a Baskin-Robbins ice cream bar (pictured) at her wedding. As a child, she’d have ice cream every night with her dad, and when she started dating Tony Visco, they went on countless ice cream dates. Her favorite, Baskin-Robbins’ World Class Chocolate, was a necessity for her Sept. 24 wedding reception at the Fairmont.

“It’s pretty difficult to find in Pittsburgh anymore,” Katie says. “Various members of my family have driven pretty long distances with coolers just to return with our favorite flavors.”

Luckily, they were able to secure tubs of World Class Chocolate, Gold Medal Ribbon and Pralines ’N Cream for the reception. After choosing a flavor to go in their waffle cones, guests could top the sweet treat off with an array of toppings that included pecans, fudge, caramel, sprinkles and oreo crumbles.

“It was very popular, and people raved about it most of the night,” Katie says. “I never even tasted the cake, but I made sure I had a scoop of ice cream!”
 

Southern Comfort Meets Pittsburgh Traditions.
Food was a top priority for Krista Herald and Drew Balzer’s Nov. 19 wedding. When they were deciding between venues, the menu was the biggest factor in their decision.
“We feel that food brings people together and could not think of a better way to blend two families than over a delicious meal,” Krista says.

The pair chose Hotel Monaco and its three-course dinner, which was complete by 8:30 p.m. and left three and a half hours of dancing before the reception ended. To keep their 145 guests full throughout the evening, Krista and Drew chose to have them indulge in one of the pair’s biggest guilty pleasures: Chick-fil-A nuggets.

“We wanted to combine Pittsburgh traditions with a bit of southern comfort, as Drew grew up in the South,” Krista says.

The 800 nuggets and dipping sauces (barbecue, honey mustard and Chick-fil-A Sauce) were served at 10:45 p.m. and completely gone 15 minutes later.
“Never underestimate the appetite of inebriated adults,” Krista says. “They were certainly a hit.
