CHATHAM UNIVERSITY

BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE
    Founded in 1845, Baldwin-Wallace College (275 Eastland Road, Berea, Ohio 44017; 440/826-2222; bw.edu/admission) maintains its commitment to prepare students as contributing, compassionate citizens of an increasingly global society. While the academic program is rooted in the liberal arts and sciences, B-W students regularly augment classroom instruction with applied learning through internships, field experiences, study abroad and community service. Baldwin-Wallace is an independent college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. It enrolls 3,100 full-time undergraduates and offers more than 50 academic majors in its divisions of business administration, education, health and physical education, humanities, music, science and mathematics, and social science. The Conservatory of Music is internationally renowned. Students say the greatest strength of Baldwin-Wallace is excellent teaching. Classes are small—averaging 19 students—and are taught by experienced faculty who can provide the individual attention and guidance that helps a student to reach his/her potential. The 100-acre campus is just 20 minutes south of downtown Cleveland in suburban Berea, a friendly community of tree-lined streets and classic homes. CARLOW UNIVERSITY

    Carlow University (3333 Fifth Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa. 15213; 800/333-2275, carlow.edu) is Pennsylvania’s premier private, Catholic, women-centered liberal arts university. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1929, the university offers more than 50 undergraduate majors and certificate programs, as well as graduate programs in education, management and technology, nursing, professional leadership, and the humanities. New degree programs include forensic accounting; an MBA program with an option to earn that degree entirely on-line; a doctoral program in nursing practice (DNP); and a doctoral program in professional counseling (PsyD). Carlow is a leader in providing continuing education programs especially designed for students seeking flexibility. The university has pioneered the development of a weekend college, an every-other-weekend degree program for adults, and also offers an intensive accelerated degree program for eligible adults. Carlow University offers educational programs in four locations: Oakland (main campus), downtown Pittsburgh, Cranberry and Greensburg.


THE ART INSTITUTE OF PITTSBURGH
    The Art Institute of Pittsburgh (420 Blvd. of the Allies, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15219; 800/275-2470, artinstitutes.edu/pittsburgh) college community is comprised of approximately 2,500 students. Since 1921, more than 65,000 graduates have emerged from The Art Institute and made significant contributions to industries including design, advertising, business and fashion. THE LAKE ERIE COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE
    The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (1858 W. Grandview Blvd., Erie, Pa. 16509, 814/866-6641; and 20 Seton Hill Drive, Greensburg, Pa. 15601, 724/552-2880; lecom.edu) is meeting the challenges of 21st century medical education by providing the most affordable and highest-quality training. The college offers the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctor of Pharmacy and two master degrees. LECOM at Seton Hill trains medical students using a highly innovative, problem-based learning curriculum. PBL is one of five student-centered pathways available in Erie with the Lecture-Discussion and Independent
    Study pathways as well as two, three-year medical degrees. LECOM also offers a three-year pharmacy degree in Erie. As one of the fastest-growing medical schools, LECOM is cited in a report to the Joseph A. Macy Foundation as an example for the growth of new medical colleges. U.S. News & World Report ranks LECOM among the top 10 medical colleges for graduating primary care physicians.
 

ROBERT MORRIS UNIVERSITY

    Robert Morris University (6001 University Blvd., Moon Township, Pa. 15108; 800/762-0097, rmu.edu) is transforming its suburban campus with a new business school complex and apartment-style residence hall opening this fall. Founded in 1921, RMU offers 60 undergraduate programs and 20 graduate programs, providing its 5,000 students academic excellence with a professional focus. Student engagement transcripts document internships and other experiences outside the classroom. Engaged learning explains the 92-percent placement rate within six months of graduation. RMU features small classes taught by professors and a student-faculty ratio of 15:1.


BETHANY COLLEGE
    Bethany College (Bethany, W.Va.; 304/829-7000, bethanywv.edu), located in the northern panhandle of West Virginia, was founded in 1840 and has remained a small college of national distinction for 170 years. Bethany students enjoy a rich variety of opportunities for classroom learning. International study is also a major part of the Bethany experience; many students visit five or more countries over the course of their four years of study. WHEELING JESUIT UNIVERSITY
    A private, Catholic University founded in 1954, Wheeling Jesuit University (316 Washington Ave., Wheeling, W.Va. 26003; 800/624-6992, wju.edu) is youngest of the 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the U.S. Wheeling Jesuit is dedicated to helping students find their path in life, which translates into successful, rewarding post-graduate achievements. Offering small, intimate classes (13-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio), the curriculum stresses student research, providing hands-on and mentored study to assist students into graduate school and careers. WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE
    A private, liberal arts college founded in 1781, Washington & Jefferson College (60 S. Lincoln St., Washington, Pa. 15301; 888/926-3529, washjeff.edu) moved up 17 spots in 2010 to land in the top 100 in Forbes third annual list of America’s Best Colleges.
W&J is the highest-rated institution in western Pennsylvania on the Forbes’ list.
    “Our overall ranking, particularly looking at our jump from last year, is exciting because of the criteria Forbes uses to determine the rankings, placing emphasis on areas like student satisfaction and post-graduate success, areas that are important to us,” said W&J President Tori Haring-Smith.
 W&J is included as well in the 2011 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges, and for the last few years, W&J has also been named to President’s Higher Education Community Service for commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.
    In addition, W&J is listed in The Princeton Review’s 2011 edition of The Best 373 Colleges and the 2011 edition of America’s Best Colleges, published by U.S. News and World Report, as one of the best liberal arts colleges in the country.


JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY

LA ROCHE COLLEGE

GRADUATE STUDIES:


IUP MONROEVILLE GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL CENTER:

    Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s  Monroeville Graduate and Professional Center (400 Penn Center Blvd., Building 4, Suite 900, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15235; 800/845-0131, iup.edu/monroeville) offers graduate programs designed for professionals living and working in the greater Pittsburgh area.
    At the Monroeville campus, graduate classes are offered weekday evenings and Saturdays. Programs offered include master’s degrees in Business Administration, Nursing. IUP also offers a doctoral program in Curriculum and Instruction.
    In the fall, IUP will begin offering courses twice a week in a full-time, daytime format for the M.A. in Community Counseling.
    
UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH SCHOOL OF NURSING:
