When you’re looking for a new doctor or are faced with a medical crisis, where do you turn? Our list, prepared for Pittsburgh magazine by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., is a good place to start. To create our list, Castle Connolly contacted thousands of health professionals in the region and asked them to name the doctors to whom they would entrust a family member when faced with a specific medical problem. The physicians are listed under 49 specialties. You’ll also find information about the doctors’ areas of expertise, hospital affiliations and office addresses and phone numbers. Of course, there are many fine physicians in our community who are not included in this representative list; it is intended as a sampling of the great body of medical talent that calls Pittsburgh home.

HOW DO WE SELECT OUR TOP DOCS?

Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. is a health care research and information company founded in 1991 by a former medical-college board chairman and president to help guide consumers to America’s top doctors and top hospitals. Castle Connolly’s established survey and research process, under the direction of an M.D., involves tens of thousands of top doctors and the medical leadership of leading hospitals.

The result: Castle Connolly identifies the top doctors in America and provides you, the consumer, with detailed information about their education, training and special expertise in its paperback guides, national and regional magazine “Top Doctors” features, and online directories.

Doctors do not and cannot pay to be selected and profiled as Castle Connolly “Top Doctors.”
