Home Style: Tantalizing Tile

Transform your kitchen, bathroom, or even your bedroom, with versatile tile.

Tile can transform more than your kitchen backsplash or bathroom floor. From intricate glass mosaics to natural stone, the material can be used to add texture and depth to fireplaces and entry walls or even to accent a bedroom wall.

“Tile has finally come around to where people are starting to realize it does have a huge impact on a space,” says Janelle Spilman, one of the tile experts at SPLASH Kitchen Bath Home. “People are getting more adventurous, and it’s fun.”

Not Your Typical Tile

Artistic Tile, which Splash began carrying exclusively last September, is known for its innovative designs and unique color combinations, according to Spilman. “It’s very forward-thinking. It’s not your typical tile,” she says. “What sets [the company] apart are the unique color combinations and their intuitive sense about what the next trends are.” Spilman says the New Jersey-based company was one of the first to combine materials such as glass or metal with stone. It also uses waterjet machinery to create intricate, precision-perfect tiles.

Make It Your Own

While the brand is considered to be in the mid- to high-end range, price-wise, it’s not out of reach, depending on how much you use for a project. Spilman says prices range from $8 per square foot for basic tile to $400 per square foot for custom, high-detail work. While adding interest to your living space, tile also is durable. “It’s very on-trend, and there’s also a lot of longevity,” Spilman says. “You can refresh so many spaces with tile.”
