“Summertime,” wrote author Charles Bowden, “is always the best of what might be.”  And that may include fashion this summer. When the heat, haze and humidity threaten to make everyday dressing an odious chore, look to simple pieces in neutral colors and lively prints cut from cotton and other lightweight textiles.

Here, a few ensembles are the perfect match for a perfect casual date, photographed in the lush, eco-friendly environs of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.

The Venue: Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, a gift from philanthropist Henry W. Phipps to the City of Pittsburgh, sits at the convergence of Schenley Park, the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. The original glass-dominated facility was designed by a New York-based greenhouse manufacturer and opened in 1893 with nine display rooms. Now a world leader in green technology, the conservatory features an extensive network of themed gardens, a rental hall and a spacious welcome center with a gift shop and café. In 1976, Phipps was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
