2010 Robert Hall Syrah - Paso Robles

Serve this rich wine with prime rib or a rack of lamb.

California’s Paso Robles wine region has been a leader in the production of Rhone wines for years; it kicked off Rhone Ranger events back in the late ’90s.

One of my favorite Paso Robles producers is Robert Hall Winery, which makes noteworthy reds. The cabernet sauvignons have been exceptional, but the real treat has been the array of syrahs. For the holiday season, I have selected the Paso Robles syrah ($23.59; Special Liquor Order code: 526473) for you to enjoy or give to others.

Relying on ripeness, this rich wine reveals deep blackberry and black-cherry aromas with a hint of dark chocolate. The concentrated flavors of black fruits finish with a touch of smoky oak and spice. Serve this syrah, which received a score of 94 on my personal scale, with prime rib or a rack of lamb.
