House of the Week: Peaceful Ligonier Retreat

This modern Frank Lloyd Wright-style home features 13-foot sloping ceilings, several fireplaces, a garden room with skylights and spectacular views of the Laurel Mountains.

147 Thistlewood Lane, Ligonier, PA 15658

Thistlewood is a hidden mountaintop treasure just over an hour from Pittsburgh. The uniquely designed home is located five miles north of the Ligonier Gazebo. The home sits atop 11.7 acres on a knob with views of the Laurel Mountains. Most of the property is wooded and home to wild turkey, deer and other wildlife. This modern Frank Lloyd Wright-style home features 13-foot sloping ceilings, two fireplaces, a garden room with skylights, and views out the windows of the beautiful surrounding property during all seasons of the year. Most important is the privacy and serenity it provides. The flagstone floored garden room can also serve as a second bedroom for guests with delightful views.

Thistlewood features a newly renovated kitchen which boosts granite counter tops, induction stove top, convection oven, wine cooler and stainless steel refrigerator.  The bathroom also is newly renovated and is designed with a European bathtub, granite countertops and a glass enclosed shower with a rain shower head.

The large master bedroom has an Asian flair with custom-built closets, Asian bed, Asian back screen and Asian curio cabinet. The bedroom's wood burning fireplace creates the perfect romantic evening. The bedroom also overlooks a lovely view of the side property.  The garden room has the original flagstone flooring, large sliding glass doors, skylights and a comforting wood burner.  The living room, dining room and kitchen have an open concept with a centralized wood burning fireplace.

Outside patios are inviting and relaxing with gentle flowing water fountains both in the front and side of the house.

Thistlewood is only five minutes away from historic Ligonier and a short drive from Fort Ligonier,  Mountain Ski Resort, Lynn Run State Park and numerous walking trails in the scenic Laurel Mountains.
